Press release

Timisoara International Airport “Traian Vuia” received today the visit of the representatives of Abu Dhabi Ports Group from the United Arab Emirates and ADQ Abu Dhabi, accompanied by the officials of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Minister Sorin Grindeanu and Minister Secretary of State Bogdan Mândrescu. Daniel Stamatovici, general manager, Marian Chivu, operational manager, Daniel Dinu, infrastructure manager, participated in the discussions on behalf of the hosts.

The meeting took place as a result of the discussions held in June by Minister Sorin Grindeanu with the Emirati side, a meeting that established the possibility of a partnership for the development of the Intermodal Cargo Logistics Centre at Timisoara “Traian Vuia” International Airport.

A partnership with Abu Dhabi Ports Group would transform the airport into a strong European regional trade hub, connected to national and international rail and road transport networks.

The Timisoara Intermodal Centre, whose construction is valued at €300 million, could be developed on an area of 65 hectares and would provide storage and transport facilities, including for intercontinental goods.

“A Timisoara – Abu Dhabi partnership in the field of cargo infrastructure development at Timisoara “Traian Vuia” International Airport would be an extraordinary opportunity. This new step in discussing a collaborative relationship opens up very serious prospects. We thank the Ministry’s management for the support and the opportunity created”, said AIT TV’s General Director Daniel Stamatovici.
